Don't forget that summer is a great time to practice a little English!  Some general sites to explore over the summer are:

For learners: BBC English, LyricsTraining, Duolingo, ESLPod, Many Things
Original Version: NPR, Audiofiles, TED, etc. etc. etc!

Have a wonderful holiday and don't forget that the summer session starts the second week of July.

Best,

June Week Three

Hi Everybody!

The school year is coming to an end -- next week is our last class of the school year, so here are a few pieces of important info:
  1. Please bring back any materials (books, DVDs, magazines) that you may have.  If you are still using them, you may keep them, but please let me know what you have to keep track of it!
  2. If you would like to reserve a place for next year's groups (we start September 30th), sign up online, or email me directly.
  3. Don't forget, tomorrow is our extra activity, a wine tasting at Habemus Rioja at 19:30.  The activity has a cost of 6 euros.
  4. Summer Session starts July 9th!
Now, on to the homework.  This week we talked about summer, which was a little optimistic considering the cold weather, but even if the weather doesn't cooperate, the summer soltice is this weekend!  So...

For listening, try an activity about summer camp or listening to one person's summer plans.  For original version listening, try New Yorker Fiction podcast .

For reading, try planning a holiday or for original version reading try something from the summer short stories series, such as Trade by Fan Flaherty.

For writing, please write about a summer memory you have from your childhood or from past holidays.

Best,
Kelly

June Week Two

Hey everybody!

This week we worked with jokes, riddles, and tongue twisters.

For listening, try listening to jokes with mp3 or listening (and repeating of course) some tongue twisters!  For original version listening you may enjoy

For reading, pick one of the jokes at ESLJokes or jokes at EnglishClub (there are many levels).  For original version reading, check out the Onion for a laugh (for example European Debt Crisis Solutions) or the 50 funniest jokes of all time.

For writing, please write about something hilarious that has happened to you or someone you know.

Don't forget that next week is our extra activity on Thursday June 20th at 19:30, you can sign up online.

Best,
Kelly

June Week One

 Hi Everybody!

This month's extra activity will be Thursday June 20th at 19:30.  We are going to attend a wine tasting at Habemus Rioja (Rodríguez Paterna, 2) in English.  There is a cost of 6 euros to participate which includes wine and treats.  English speaking friends and family are welcome to come along.  You can sign up online.

Please if you have any materials (books, magazines, DVDs, etc.), please return them if you are not using them anymore.  Also, don't forget that you can sign up for summer session if you are interested!  I will confirm your place ASAP.

This week we talked about ACCENT and how to improve our pronunciation, rhythm and intonation in English.  Practice makes perfect, so please keep practicing this.  One of the best things to do is to listen and to repeat, listen and repeat.  I recommend repeat along with drills or use limericks with stress work.

For reading, try any reading exercise (like listen and read along), but read out loud paying attention to stress and intonation.  For original version, try reading an article from NPR and then listen to the audio, paying close attention to the rhythm and sound of it. One article that is close to home is Spanish King Under Fire.

For writing, please write the topic of your choice (you could try a creative writing prompt) and then practice reading it out loud, paying attention to stressed words and syllables.

Don't forget that next week Monday and Tuesdays are holidays!  If you have class those days and we have not arranged for a different day, please email me to find a time for you to come to class later in the week.

Have a great week!
