6/20/2014 0 Comments June Week TwoThanks for a great school year!
Well, folks, we're coming to the end of the 2013-2014 school year and I'm headed to the United States this week! In class we played games and celebrated another great school year. But don't forget you can continue to study throughout the summer! Here are some general resources that you can use throughout the summer. Listening There are lots of great sites out there for learners: 6 Minute English, Elllo, VOA, and ESLPod. For original version check out any of the great shows at Audiofil.es, NPR, or BBC. Reading Learners can try reading try EnglishZine or TopicsMag. For original version try the Guardian, or the New York Times. Writing Why not keep a summer writing journal to document what you do throughout your holidays and the summer months? Give it a try! Most importantly, enjoy the summer and have fun! See you after San Mateo! Kelly

6/9/2014 0 Comments June Week OneBaby, you can drive my car
This week we talked about cars, driving, motorcycles and drivers' licenses. Listening For listening practice this week, learners can try several listening activities: Driving Road Test, Highway, or Driving While Calling and Texting. For original version listening, try the This American Life episode Autoshow (available with transcript). Reading Learners should try some reading comprehension activities such as Let Me Drive, Cross The Street, The Death Car, and the Hitchhiker. For original version reading, check out the recent New Yorker article about the Self-Driving Car. Writing This week, please write a composition in response to any of these questions: Do you think the legal driving age should be lowered to 16? Do you think the self-driving car is a good idea? Could you live without a car? Why or why not? Best, Kelly |
